Porteño

Porteño is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Sydney, in terms of food, pricing, atmosphere, and service.
Basicially dine at the restaurant the same amount of times I visited Sydney, which is 3 times in 3 years!

A short introduction of this restaurant: Porteño is an Argentinian restaurant awarded with 2 Chef Hats, and their chefs Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz won the Best Chefs category for 2013.

They have many good dishes (I have tried 2/3 of their menu), but in my opinion the must try dish is the 8 hour woodfired pig.

Crispy Fried Brussel Sprouts with Lentils & Mint
Very tasteful and interesting dish.

2) CHORIZO PORTENO A$14
Housemade Pork Sausage

3) MORCILLA A$12
Blood Sausage with Red Peppers in Garlic

4) LENGUA EN ESCABECHE A$10
Pickled Veal Tongue
My partner loves it, fresh and tender, superb value at this price.

5) PAN DE CASA A$2 per person
House Baked Bread with Olive Oil & Pork Pate
Starter dish at a superb price value.

6) CORDERO A LA CRUZ A$46
8 hour Woodfired Lamb
As an Asian, we definitely have eaten much better, though different rendition of this dish.

Average
1) POLLITO A$30
Free Range Baby Chicken Grilled Over Charcoal
Decent, but overpriced.

2) CALAMARES ASADOS A$26
BBQ Calamari with Chickpea Sofrito, Preserved Lemon & Watercress
Decent, but overpriced.

 
A couple of dishes have been replaced since I last ate in 2011, so not going to mention over here.
 
Reservation can AND must be made if you are dining in with a group of 5 or more people, else you will be rejected at the door.
Anything lesser, you have to queue at the door.

Tip: Just go and queue around 5.30pm, and you are almost assured a table when the restaurant opens at 6pm.
